Thanh's enthusiasm for teaching guitar draws its energy from seeing and hearing students develop into better musicians. He creates a comfortable and challenging atmosphere where students are motivated to work at guitar and learn. Using his diverse skill set he may employ technology for recording their audio and visually analyze a wave file to help describe how to improve their music; or while talking about the history of the instrument, he may play audio recordings of different interpretations of the student's current piece. For younger students, Thanh is often found smiling and laughing while playing musical games to help reinforce music concepts in the student or use even use Dalcroze methods to help remember rhythms and fundamental parts of music. While Thanh believes enjoying music is a crucial part of the development process, he also believes that consistent practicing habits, diversity in music, solid technique, theory, and performance are all important factors in becoming a well-rounded musician.

Thanh has a Masters of Arts degree from San Jose State University in classical guitar performance. He has been a guest artist at Oak Grove High School and through the Sonart Group, has played at local San Jose high schools as part of their community outreach program. He has also performed in Los Gatos for the annual Historic House tour. In addition to being a regular musician at Kaleid Art Gallery and Satori Tea, Thanh's music has been heard in private parties, weddings, coffee shops, and restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Pennsylvania.

Teaching is also an important passion. He believes a key element of his supervisor duties at Kutztown University was teaching his staff skills and procedures, in addition to listening to customers and problem shooting. Thanh has taught music at after school music programs in San Jose elementary schools (music fundamentals and introductory keyboard), guitar classes both at private schools (ages K through adult) and has co-taught the Guitar Fundamentals class at San Jose State University with Rick Vandivier, music theory classes (CM test), and one-on-one private guitar lessons.

He has studied many reputable teachers including: Joe Mixon, Ted Williams, Michael Bautista, Patrick Francis, Steve Lin, and Grigory Goryachev. Thanh has also performed in numerous masterclasses and has played for Scott Tennant, Rene Izquierdo, Jerome Mouffe, and Gabriel Bianco.
